The Purpose and History of the Bay Path Rotaract Club

Rotaract is a service club for young women and men ages 18 to 30 who are dedicated to community and international service. Rotaract clubs are sponsored by local Rotary Clubs that are part of Rotary International (RI). RI is a global community of committed professionals working together to serve others and advance peace. More than 1.2 million members in over 34,000 Rotary Clubs worldwide volunteer in communities at home and abroad.

 

The Bay Path University Rotaract Club was formed in 2009, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Enfield, CT.  Dr. Cheryl A. Leary, a Bay Path University professor and past president of the Enfield Rotary Club, instituted Bay Path's Rotaract Club by filing the official paperwork with Rotary District 7890.

 

Rotaract provides Bay Path students an opportunity to learn about the "service above self" principles of Rotary International, gain knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development and become true "partners in service" and key members of the family of Rotary. Rotaract members plan, organize and participate in numerous community and international service projects during the school year.  
 

Patricia Drewniak, MEd, Assistant Professor of Biology and Director of Science Laboratories, is the club's current academic advisor. Enfield Rotarian Mike Helechu serves as the club's Rotary liaison and advisor. You can reach Mike at (860) 745-9938 or mhelechu@aol.com.

Rotary currently holds the highest consultative status offered to a nongovernmental organization (NGO) by the UN's Economic and Social Council, which oversees many specialized UN agencies. The Rotary Club of Enfield and Rotary District 7890 provided transportation and registration fees for Rotaract members attending this event.
